The Winston-Salem Wolves were founded in 2018 prior to joining the East Coast Basketball League for the 2019 season; the inaugural run of the franchise saw the team post an undefeated regular season and finished at 14-1 after falling to the league defending champions in the 2019 ECBL Championship game.
The Wolves placed 3 starters from the 2019 team on the ECBL All-Star roster while capturing the Northern Conference regular season title as well as the Northern Conference playoff tournament title.
The Wolves returned to the ECBL in 2020, however the season was cut short due to COVID-19. Following a disappointing 2021 season, the Wolves returned to playoff form in 2022, then garnered the ECBL Northern Conference Regular Season title in 2023.
The Winston-Salem Wolves have had 4 winning seasons out of 5 competing in the East Coast Basketball League, in addition to winning regional events such as the Red Bull 3×3. The team plays a regular minor league season in the ECBL, but also competes in various elite tournaments and summer leagues.
